McCloskey International announces $1M donation to Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation

McCloskey International announced a $1-million donation Friday to the PRHC Foundation in support of patient care for children and babies at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

The announcement was made at the Greenbridge Celtic Folk Festival hosted by musicians Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy being held this weekend on the McCloskey family property on Heritage Line.

Paschal McCloskey, founder and president of the McCloskey International screening and crushing equipment plant at Highways 7 and 28 east of the city, said the gift represents both an investment in the Children and Babies program at PRHC, and in the foundation’s legacy program outreach, according to a release.

“The thought of a baby or a child requiring hospital care is heartbreaking, especially when it means seeking specialized treatment outside our community,” McCloskey stated.

“Not only can the costs add up quickly, but the emotional toll of being separated from family support systems can be devastating. McCloskey International is committed to investing in innovative technologies that support care for PRHC’s most fragile patients and their families close to home, where and when they need it most.”

Lesley Heighway, PRHC Foundation president and CEO, says that children under the age of 15 constitute 14 per cent of the population in the Peterborough Peterborough area, making focused care closer to home not just an option, but a necessity for our entire region.

“Last year, 15,853 babies and children under 19 came from across our region to receive care at PRHC,” Heighway stated.

“We’re so grateful to McCloskey International for their support of key technological investments such as infant ventilators, triple pumps and vein viewers for PRHC’s Labour and Delivery program, Level 2B Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and pediatric inpatient & outpatient programs.

“Thanks to their generosity, fewer pediatric patients than ever will need to be transferred to a hospital specializing in children’s care. Instead they will be able to receive expert care right here at home for much, if not all, of their treatment.”
